Career Panel: “Paths to Project Management”

Are you able to take a great idea and work with others to create real solutions? Are you always tapped to lead new initiatives or events for school? Then project management might be a natural profession for you. Come engage and connect with leaders who have succeeded in their respective industry in the realm of project management.

About the Speakers: 

Ram Dokka, PgMP, PMP, PMI-ACP, CBIP, SSBB

Ram Dokka is a Project, Program and Portfolio Management Professional with extensive experience in strategizing, building and guiding IT PMOs (Project Management Offices) and mentoring Senior and Executive leadership. Ram is an IT PMO and Agile transformation leader at the City of Austin. He led the hybrid agile practice delivering 15x value, creating and implementing best practice frameworks and designing and implementing innovative project and program solutions to benefit the City of Austin and its citizens.

Ram is also a long-time contributing volunteer for the PMI Austin chapter, Region 6 and for PMI (Project Management Institute) and PMIEF(Project Management Institute Educational Foundation) at global levels. He also served as President of PMI Austin chapter during 2014 & 2015. Ram has been the PMIEF Board Director since 2017and is currently the Chair of PMI Educational Foundation in 2021.

Ram has presented extensively at Austin Chapter events and PMI’s regional and global events such as SXSW, InnoTech, etc. sharing and growing best practices. Ram is also a Data Management professional and thought leader, he designed and taught Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence Program Management Master's certificate courses for Villanova University and led the City of Austin’s Data Governance and DW&BI Program.

As PMIEF Board Director & Chair, Austin's resident PMIEF ambassador and PMI Global volunteer, Ram is passionate about empowering the youth with PM life skills and guiding them to realize their dreams in delivering social good.

Jennifer Tharp, PMP

Jennifer Tharp is a recognized expert in project management, agile development, strategic planning, and risk. Ms. Tharp co-authored the ground-breaking book, Sustainability Integration for Effective Project Management, with project managers and researchers around the world, the first to offer direct guidance to project managers on the long-term social, financial and environmental impacts of the work they do. As President of Mastodon Consulting, she works closely with boards, counsel, and executive leadership of large public companies, the Fortune 500, and high growth firms to increase fiduciary oversight, transparency, and accountability. She is currently launching a strategic plan for the State of California which will transform how government work is done.

She has taught project management, risk, leadership and sustainability at University of California, Berkeley, USA. She also is a regular keynote speaker at international events, where she focuses on the value of project management to business priorities. Ms. Tharp has been a Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification holder and PMI volunteer since 2001, served as President of PMI’s San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, and served on PMI's Global Board of Directors for six years, ending in December 2020.

Lorna Stewart-Booker, MBA, PMP, CSP-SM

Lorna Stewart-Booker is a recognized Team-Focused Leader /Coach Agilest and Professional Management Professional (PMP). She started her career at UNCF (United Negro College Fund). Since then, she has consulted with varied Fortune 500 companies, such as Visa, Rackspace, USAA, Dell, Charles Schwab, etc. She’s a strong believer in leading people and managing projects to achieve strategic vision for the clients she served.

She is an ardent believer in coaching and mentoring others to realize their personal and professional growth. She has been a volunteer with PMI Austin for over 15 years serving in many different capacities and President of the Austin Chapter in 2010. She serves as a BBBS (Big Brother, Big Sister) volunteer to her Little Sister for over 11 years. She is presently serving as PMIEF Liaison Chair with the Austin Chapter.

Renee Adair, PMP, DASM, CVTL

Renee Adair is the owner of Successful Projects in Austin, TX. Renee brings over 25 years of business leadership and project management experience. She is also a Business Relationship Manager with Dell Technologies working on transformative cloud and data center initiatives. Prior to owning Successful Projects, Renee served as a Program Director for a leading telecom consulting firm, focused on overseeing delivery of multi-million-dollar, complex outside plant engineering projects. She is experienced in managing projects, leading and mentoring project managers and building a Project Management Office (PMO). Renee also worked in Information Technology for fourteen years including roles in support, network administration and Director level management. She brings a wealth of real-world experiences in managing complex projects that has helped shape her solutions oriented and customized approach toward project management training and coaching.

Renee is an active volunteer within the project management community and is a passionate advocate for the project management profession and supporting the advancement and enrichment of project managers through a better understanding of disciplined approaches available to help ensure project success.

The PMI Educational Foundation (PMIEF) is a nonprofit, public charitable organization and the philanthropic arm of the Project Management Institute (PMI). PMIEF views project management as a critical skill for everyone in society and is focused on the 7 billion people around the world who are unfamiliar with project management. While PMI is focused on making project management indispensable for business results, PMIEF is focused on bringing the power of project management to the rest of society.
