How do I join PMI Global?

Membership is open to anyone who is interested and/or engaged in practicing, teaching, researching or otherwise applying project management skills. To become a member in the PMI Austin Chapter, you must first join the PMI Global at pmi.org.

*Beginning in 2027, when someone joins PMI, they will automatically be enrolled in the local chapter nearest to them.

How do I join PMI Austin Chapter?

To become a member of the PMI Austin Chapter, you must first become a member of the Project Management Institute. As you fill out the main PMI membership application, you will be asked if you wish to join a local chapter. Simply select the Austin Chapter (there is an extra fee for joining the PMI Austin Chapter).

If you are already a member of PMI Global, but would like to join the local chapter, select Local Chapters from the menu on the left of the screen.

What is included with my PMI Austin membership?

Your PMI Austin membership connects you with opportunities to learn, connect and grow within our local project management community. Do I need to be PMP® certified to join?

No. Membership is open to all project management professionals and enthusiasts, regardless of certification.

Does PMI Austin offer an orientation for new members?

Yes. Our Membership Orientation is a great way to learn more about PMI Austin, explore chapter programs and resources, and discover ways to get involved. You’ll also have an opportunity to connect with other members and ask questions. Sign up for orientation.

How can I get involved with PMI Austin?

Make your membership your own. Attend an event, volunteer, participate in mentoring, join a study group or connect with fellow Project Professionals at a networking event. Whether you have a little time or a lot, there are opportunities to participate, contribute and build meaningful connections. Get involved.

How do I stay connected with PMI Austin?

Can I join multiple chapters?

Yes. You can join multiple chapters, but each membership is managed separately.

How do I switch chapters?

Log into your PMI profile, navigate to “My PMI,” and update your chapter affiliation.

How do I renew my membership?

You can renew your membership through your PMI account online. Renewal notifications will also be sent via email.

How do I cancel my membership?

To cancel your membership, you will need to log into your PMI account and navigate to your membership information and select cancel. If you have any trouble or need a refund, please reach out to PMI support: https://www.pmi.org/about/contact. 

I am a new member - how do I log on to the member area of chapter website?

Within 24-48 hours of purchasing your local membership at pmi.org you will receive a welcome email from PMI. The email will obtain log-in details to access the PMI Austin Chapter site as a member. If you do not receive the welcome email please contact us.

I'm a member but this is my first visit to the chapter website, how do I logon?

Your PMI Austin login credentials is the same as your PMI Global login credentials (your PMI User Name and Password). Any problems logging on please contact us.

I forgot my login credentials to the local chapter, what do I do?

From the top navigation menu, select Login and click the Forgot Password? link and follow the instructions. PMI will send you an email notification to change your password.

I am a chapter member and am not receiving chapter emails, what can I do?

Please verify the email you listed with PMI Global under pmi.org.

If the email address is correct, check your spam folder. A firewall or spam filtering service is likely the cause of the issue. However, you can white list several domains and IP addresses to ensure safe delivery.  Depending on your e-mail service, you may be able to do this yourself, or you may need the assistance of your IT administrator. 

You may also have unsubscribed from chapter mailings, in which case you will not receive any newsletter emails.

How do I update my personal information?

Membership and personal information is updated on the PMI global website at pmi.org.

Can I post a job from my company on your site?

Yes, visit our Employers page for more information and submit job postings.

PMI Austin offers a variety of learning opportunities, including chapter meetings, Lunch N Learns, Book Club discussions, Study Groups, Professional Development Days and mentorship programs. Register for these opportunities through our events calendar.

Does PMI Austin offer PMP certification prep classes?

Yes. PMI Austin offers PMP certification preparation through our Study Groups. Visit the Study Group page to learn more about the program, connect with the group on LinkedIn, or check the Events Calendar for upcoming sessions and registration. Have questions? Reach out to our Study Group Chair for help.

How do I register for the PMP certification exam?

Registration for the PMP® and CAPM® exams is completed through PMI’s global website. Before applying, review the eligibility requirements to make sure you meet the qualifications for your certification. See the requirements to register for the exam on PMI.org.

Do I need to report PDUs from PMI Austin events?

PMI Austin may report eligible PDUs on your behalf for events such as monthly chapter meetings, Lunch N Learns and Professional Development Days (PDDs). However, this isn’t guaranteed for every event. We’ll provide PDU reporting guidance as needed.

I attended a chapter event that offered PDUs, but I haven't received them. What should I do?

Please contact our Professional Development team with the event details and your PMI ID.

I forgot to register for the chapter meeting; can I still attend?

Advance registration is encouraged and helps us plan for the best event experience. Onsite registration may be available for some chapter meetings, depending on space and event requirements. Check the event details for registration options before you arrive.

What is the deadline to register for a chapter event?

Registration deadlines vary by event, but registration typically closes the day before the event. Check the event details for the registration deadline and register early to secure your spot.

How do I cancel my event registration and request a refund?

I was charged the wrong amount for an event. How do I get a partial refund?
What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express for online event registration.

Does the chapter accept vouchers, as a form of payment?

At this time, only credit card payments are accepted.

Can a company sponsor a PMI Austin event?

Yes. Organizations can support PMI Austin through a variety of sponsorship opportunities. Visit our Sponsorship page to explore available options and find the right fit for your organization.

   Volunteering

How do I volunteer with PMI Austin?

Volunteering is a great way to get involved, build connections and contribute your skills to the PMI Austin community. Opportunities range from supporting chapter initiatives and events to serving on a committee. Learn more about the various ways to volunteer.

Can I earn PDUs by volunteering with PMI Austin?

Yes. Eligible volunteer activities may earn PDUs in the Giving Back category, so you can contribute to the PMI Austin community while supporting your professional development.

I am interested in the PMI Austin Mentorship program. How do I get started?

Our Mentorship Program is a structured cohort experience, with mentors and mentees recruited during designated enrollment periods. Interested in joining a future cohort? I’m interested in speaking at a PMI Austin event. How do I get started?

We’re always looking for speakers who are ready to share their knowledge, experience and fresh perspectives with our community. How do I become a member of the Board of Directors?

Director and chair positions are appointed by the Officers. All director and chair opportunities will be posted on the Volunteer Engagement Platform (VEP).

Officer positions are elected by the membership. The Nominating Committee prepares a slate for election each year. Please contact us if you are interested in becoming an Officer.

I don’t see any volunteer opportunities that align with my interests. Can I still express interest with the chapter?

Yes! Fill out our interest form at the bottom of the Become a Volunteer page and we will contact you once opportunities become available.
