 The Well-Led Project: Risk Management with a Wellness Perspective

Description of Presentation

The presentation will cover risk management and quality assurance for portfolios, programs, and projects, including the sometimes-neglected perspective of employee wellness.  It will draw upon the PMI’s Standard for Risk Management in Portfolios, Programs, and Projects, along with additional wellness risks. The mitigations are derived from the speaker’s 20+ years of experience as a Risk Manager/Quality Assurance Director for large programs, projects, and portfolios.

The participants will learn how to develop a well-constructed risk management and mitigation plan that improves project outcomes while accounting for employee wellness.  The Well-Led Risk Management approach presented makes the sustainability of success in future projects more likely by balancing employee engagement with project success.

Learning Objectives for Presentation (Minimum 3 SMART Objectives)  

  • Articulate and incorporate key risk management concepts such as risk attitude, appetite, threshold, and mitigation.
  • Articulate the different risk management domains (Enterprise, Portfolio, Program, Project) and the risks present in each Domain.
  • Draft a project management and mitigation plan using PMI standards incorporating risks to employee wellness.
  • Understand and apply lessons learned from project examples in their risk management plans

Don Grier

Don is a seasoned IT project and quality assurance director with over 30 years of experience delivering innovative and impactful solutions for diverse clients and industries. As the Managing Partner and Founder of Wellness Leadership LLC, he combines his passion for complex service delivery, servant leadership, and wellness to help organizations and individuals achieve their full potential.

Before launching Wellness Leadership LLC, Don was a Managing Director and Product Development Lead at Accenture, where he led a 2,100+ global professional services organization that successfully implemented transformative software for 2,000+ clients across diverse industries and ecosystems. He also served as an Elite Quality Assurance Director, ensuring client satisfaction and mitigating risk for many challenging and multidisciplinary programs. Throughout his career, he has won multiple awards for software development and program management and holds numerous certifications, including the PMP, Elite Quality Assurance Director, and SAFe Agile certifications.

Previous Speaking Experience  

My most recent speaking experience was to the Accenture US Southern Region on several topics during the first Friday programs in 2023.  Topics included Corporate Wellness and Managing Risk, each with over 200 participants.  I also put out a weekly podcast here: Change Well Spotify, focused currently on executive wellness.
