When you have unresolved or uncommunicated that would best be spoken to someone you work with – for the benefit of you, them, and your company; there is a valuable communications process to apply called a Clearing. It utilizes a powerful tool named 5-Step Communication. By means of this recipe, you can effectively and constructively get your message out and cleared away in a clean, direct, complete, structured conversation.

Let's Talk About Risk: Mitigating Project Risk for Success (1 Technical PDU)

Risk management should be a top priority to every project manager. The Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK) shows us the methodology of risk management practices, but what about the things we can do that make a difference? This talk will examine proactive steps a project manager can take to increase their management of risk. Real life lessons learned and examples shared will point project managers in the right direction.

Drop by to check out Austin PM Toastmasters.  Toastmasters is a great way to develop self-confidence by improving your communication and leadership skills.Toastmasters clubs conduct meetings for members to support each other in reaching personal and professional goals. You can also earn PDU's by giving a presentation, sharing knowledge, and volunteering with Toastmasters (a non-profit organization). Join the club and reap the benefits!

Interested in helping students advance in their project management careers? Looking for a way to give back? Consider becoming a student mentor! PMI Austin is collaborating with the University of Texas to find project management professionals interested in giving back, sharing their career experiences and providing feedback to students on consulting projects - opportunities are available in March and May 2019.

In 2019, the Education Office of PMI Austin Chapter will start a PMP Exam Prep Scholarship program. Under this program,  unemployed chapter members can attend Saturday PMP Exam Prep classes paying for materials cost only ($250). Students are encouraged to pay the remaining tuition ($845) to the Scholarship Fund once they find employment. To apply, contact Geoff West at certific[email protected]

Education Opportunities

PMI Austin Chapter


Saturday exam preparation courses are designed to help students pass PMI's PMP® or CAPM® exam. The 40-hour course, based on the newly-released PMBOK® Guide 6th edition, is taught over five Saturdays and meets the 35-hour requirement for PMP® certification.

Cost: $1095 for PMI Austin Chapter members and $1195 for non-members. Ask about our military, student, and group discounts at [email protected]

PMI Austin Chapter has partnered with Banyan Group Project Management Solutions to offer PMP® and PMP-ACP® Exam preparation courses, as well as an Intro to Agile class. Weekday courses will be available both in the classroom and online.

We have volunteer opportunities to fit everyone's busy schedule and skillset. Find out about the benefits of being a volunteer and search all available opportunities through our Volunteer Relationship Management System (VRMS) at

Positions include:

Membership Chair. Assist the Director of Membership with attracting and retaining chapter members. The purpose is to attract new members and to retain their continued participation as a positive experience in support of the chapter’s long-term strategy and sustainability goals.

Volunteer Chair. Assist the Director of Volunteer with attracting and retaining volunteers for chapter events. The purpose is to ensure that chapter events are fully staffed with trained volunteers to assist attendees and board members.

PMI Austin Mentors. Develop mentor-mentee relationships to share your knowledge with other project management professionals.
