Presentation Title: Leading in a VUCA World.

In today’s rapidly changing world, strategies for leaders, including project and program managers as well as ScrumMasters, are needed – especially when they are constantly being challenged in new ways and under pressure to innovate and deal with the unpredictable. In this informal online interview session, Kerri and Steve will share stories from the field to highlight practices and techniques on how to more successfully deal with the volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) world we’re all facing right now - skills needed by leaders, regardless of using traditional project management or Agile approaches.

We will learn:

  • Understanding VUCA and what it means for leaders
  • Gain insights on how to lead successful projects and programs in a VUCA world
  • Determine your own leadership readiness to have a positive impact on your teams/org

About the Speakers: Steve Martin and Kerri Sutey

Steve Martin is a Principal Enterprise Agility Consultant, Coach, and Certified Scrum@Scale Trainer who specializes in working with executive and management teams. He helps organizational leadership teams become more effective by applying Agile values and principles to their day-to-day leadership challenges. Steve has over 25 years experience, from Start-ups to Fortune 500, across multiple industries including finance, healthcare IT, medical devices, biotechnology, communications, publishing, and more. Building upon his roles as a Director/Manager and Enterprise Agile Coach in technology-based companies, Steve is pursuing his doctorate in leadership and sustained change in organizations undergoing Agile transformations.

One of Steve’s latest conferences where he was invited to speak was the SIM Boston Technology Leadership Summit attended by approximately 700+ C-levels and executives in the technology sector. His one-hour session was titled “Becoming an Exemplary Leader” in which 20 minutes of lecture was followed by a facilitation of a scenario to apply the concepts. Steve also was a speaker in a break-out session at the most recent Keep Austin Agile conference (2019), with over 600 attendees at the conference.

Kerri Sutey is an Enterprise Agile Coach with over 15 years of experience in planning, prioritizing, and executing programs and leading teams across diverse functional areas, including marketing, IT, modeling, and simulation. In recent years, she has focused her time coaching leaders, programs, and teams on their journey to be successful in constantly changing and ambiguous environments. She particularly finds joy in the “aha” moments of collaboration, innovation, and learning.
