Presentation Title: Capital Metro’s New Downtown MetroRail Station – Project Management Tools, Tips, and Challenges

Join us as Capital Metro’s Project Manager provides and overview of the project, along with effective project management tools and tips to consider during initiation, planning, design, and execution of large and complex design and construction projects. The presentation will include considerations for budgets, schedules, team organization and team building, communications, risks and safety, quality, public relations, changes, lessons learned, and COVID19 impacts.
After an extensive and thorough permitting, environmental clearance, and stakeholder coordination process, Capital Metro is in the middle of constructing a new $37M Downtown MetroRail station. The new train station will accommodate three tracks and four trains which allows for increased service frequency and capacity. The project spans over four city blocks and includes a new public plaza/promenade, sidewalks, landscaping, and improved safety features. It is located in a busy area of Downtown Austin, adjacent to the Austin Convention Center, hotels, residences, businesses, and a historic State park with museums. A State grant provides the basis for funding.
