Austin Mayor Steve Adler recently announced his extension of the city’s shelter-in-place order to May 30th. Travis County extended its order as well in tandem with the city.
Just a few months ago, words like self-disruption and transformation were the buzzwords du jour. Now the world really has been disrupted. The fact is people do not change unless there is a reason. We are facing a once-in-a-century opportunity to not only believe in change, but to drive change.
Here at PMI Austin, our volunteers have driven many changes since the beginning of COVID-19, with the most visible being the go-virtual change that delivered a series of virtual events. PMI Austin is more active than ever.
These changes did not go unnoticed. The people we serve took the time to write to us:
- Great service; keep it going.
- It was a success! I would love to attend future events if held virtually, even after we return to normal life.
- This was really excellent and Virtual Lunch and Learn really gave flexibility to learn and easy to communicate.
- Great job overall! You can tell this organization is dedicated to its members and continuing a program despite the crazy... Thank you!
We have made notable progress and appreciate the affirmation from the people we serve. Meanwhile, we are also a work in progress. No matter how much we try to get things right, we usually find room for improvement while exploring the new normal.
On April 30th, we held our first ever virtual Chapter meeting with a speaker from Germany, PMI Top-Influencer Oliver Lehmann. The meeting was well attended by PMs in the region and guests from other parts of the world. It was a wonderful learning experience where we learned survival hints for project business from Mr. Lehmann and lessons on virtual event production. During the meeting breaktime, we played a video produced by our Marketing group to honor the frontline workers and the everyday heroes in our life. I am including the video link here again for your enjoyment. April Chapter Meeting Video.
