Title: Offshore Resources on Agile Teams: Can It Work?

Session Abstract:

Many of us have been asked to include offshore resources on Agile teams. The resources are often in a different time zone working hours that barely overlap with the hours of US team members. However, many of the Agile Manifesto principles require frequent real-time interaction. Some specific principles are:

  • Business people and developers must work together daily throughout the project.
  • The most efficient and effective method of conveying information to and within a development team is face-to-face conversation.
  • The best architectures, requirements, and designs emerge from self-organizing teams.
  • Build projects around motivated individuals. Give them the environment and support they need, and trust them to get the job done.

Each of these principles is difficult, if not impossible, to implement in an environment where teams are separated by geography and time zones. I'll share my stories, and stories from others, of how we’ve tried to use offshore resources with varying success. Please be ready to share your stories as well.
