PMI's New Strategic Direction

In August 2017, the PMI Board of Directors approved a new strategic plan for PMI. PMI is transforming what it means to be a professional association that represents and advocates for people who practice project, program and portfolio management.

Our new winning aspiration—empowering people to make ideas a reality—focuses on how PMI can help our customers achieve their ideal future to make dreams come true.

As we approach PMI’s 50th anniversary in 2019, our new strategic approach will help us envision our future—and the future of the profession we serve. The new strategy serves as the roadmap to reinventing PMI as a professional association of the future, one that we fondly call PMI 2.0. PMI is the world’s leading project management association and we are making strategic change from a position of strength.

You are why PMI is here. Your membership and involvement in PMI says that are willing to make an investment in yourself and in your career. PMI intends to concentrate on representing and advocating for our most important customers: the individuals who practice project, program and portfolio management.

PMI’s new strategic direction is built on three pillars for success:

  1. Strategic Focus (which helps us choose what to do and what not to do);
  2. Customer Centricity (which helps us better meet the needs of individual project managers today and in the future); and
  3. Organizational Agility (which enables us to respond more quickly to customer needs).

PMI’s core values remain the same: project management impact; professionalism; volunteerism; community; and engagement.
